In the first week of the 2026 World Cup Group G, Belgium and Egypt faced off at Seattle Stadium. In the match officiated by Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti, Egypt took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute with a goal from Emam Ashour.
Belgium increased the pressure following this goal but could not convert their chances. The first half ended 1-0, and the second half was played at a high tempo.
In Belgium, the equalizer came seconds after Romelu Lukaku entered the game in the 66th minute.
Following a sharp cross into the penalty area by Thomas Meunier, who chased a pass played behind the defense, Mohamed Hany, attempting to intervene alongside Lukaku, sent the ball into his own net.
Both teams created clear chances in the remaining minutes, but no further goals were scored, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the second match of the group, Belgium will face Iran, while Egypt will play against New Zealand.
