34 goals scored in Europa League match: Tete's goal was not enough
Ajax and Panathinaikos faced off in the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round second leg. The match went to extra time following a goal by Tete, who transferred from Galatasaray, and the penalty shootout ended 13-12.
Greek side Panathinaikos defeated Dutch representatives Ajax 1-0 in the second leg, reversing their 1-0 loss in the first match, sending the game to extra time and then penalties.
The stunning encounter, which saw a total of 34 penalty kicks taken, ended with a 13-12 victory for Ajax, sending the Dutch side through to the play-offs.
Ajax's 40-year-old goalkeeper Remko Pasveer saved 5 penalties and also converted one of his own.
