70th Gillette Milliyet Athlete of the Year Awards ceremony held

Presenting the Athlete of the Year Award to national volleyball player Melissa Vargas at the ceremony, Minister of Youth and Sports Osman Aşkın Bak stated, “70 years is not easy to say. This is the result of great effort and dedication. On this occasion, I would like to express my gratitude and respects to those who have built and carried this beautiful tradition for 70 years, and to those who will continue it from now on. 

Sport is a phenomenon that unites, heals, and gives hope. That is why every area where sports and athletes are present is very special to us, and this special night, as it is every year, is full of both happiness and hope for us this year as well. Turkey is a rising star in sports, just as it is in every field. 

I believe that Turkey’s rise in sports will continue for many, many more years, and our athletes will proudly wave our flag and represent Turkey in every field. In this sense, they will make each of us happy with new successes and new joys,” he said.
