A first in its 119-year history: Bayer Leverkusen secures championship

Bayer Leverkusen, under the management of Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, hosted Werder Bremen in the 29th week of the league.

Defeating their opponent with a decisive 5-0 scoreline thanks to goals from Victor Boniface (penalty) in the 25th minute, Granit Xhaka in the 60th minute, and Florian Wirtz in the 68th, 83rd, and 90th minutes, Bayer Leverkusen achieved a major milestone by securing the first championship in its 119-year history.

Bayer Leverkusen also ended Bayern Munich's 11-year stranglehold on the Bundesliga title.

EQUALED JUVENTUS' RECORD

By leaving Bayern Munich behind in the title race, Bayer Leverkusen also equaled the record of another European giant, Juventus.

The German team joined the record held by Juventus, which went undefeated for 43 matches between May 2011 and May 2012, marking the longest unbeaten streak in Europe's major leagues since 2000.

With the victory against Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen extended its unbeaten streak to 43 matches, catching up to Juventus, the previous sole holder of the record in this category.
