A first in Japan: Vissel Kobe crowned champions

In the Japanese J1 Football League (J1), league leaders Vissel Kobe secured their first-ever J1 title by defeating Nagoya Grampus, who sat 5th in the standings, 2-1.

In the match played at Misaki Park Stadium in Kobe, Vissel Kobe took a 2-0 lead with goals from midfielder Haruya Ide in the 12th minute and experienced striker Yoshinori Muto in the 14th minute.

The visiting team narrowed the gap to one in the 30th minute with a goal from their Danish forward Kasper Junker: 2-1.

With no further goals scored in the remainder of the match, Vissel Kobe left the pitch with a 2-1 victory.

With this result, Vissel Kobe increased their points tally to 68, clinching their first championship in J1 league history with one week left in the season.

Under the management of 46-year-old head coach Takayuki Yoshida, Vissel Kobe has recorded 20 wins, 8 draws, and 5 losses in 33 matches.

Second-placed Yokohama F. Marinos could only reach 64 points after a 0-0 draw at home against Niigata yesterday.
