Acun Ilıcalı targets league championship
Businessman and owner of NK Maribor, Acun Ilıcalı, stated that he is aiming for a league championship.
In an interview given to the club's website, Acun Ilıcalı spoke about the current situation at Ljudski Vrt and past events.
Following Maribor's 3-0 victory over Domzale in the Slovenian league, Ilıcalı expressed his satisfaction with the team spirit shown, especially after the recent change in head coach. After the instability in recent matches, Ilıcalı believes the team is moving toward stability and strengthening relationships under new head coach Fedo Dudic, which he considers crucial for better performances.
Ilıcalı reiterated his pride in being the owner of NK Maribor, stating that he wants to achieve both short-term and long-term goals with the club, and expressed his hope for greater unity and solidarity among all stakeholders. He also noted that there are still many matches ahead and that he believes Maribor can remain in the title race this season.
Ilıcalı, who is also the owner of Hull City, admitted that he struggled to manage all his business ventures simultaneously last season and could not dedicate enough time to them. However, he promised that he would be more involved in the club's operations moving forward and would dedicate more time to Maribor.
At the end of the interview, Ilıcalı also spoke about former head coach Dalovic, stating that he did not come to Maribor with the level of desire for success that he had expected. Noting that he has learned from this experience, Ilıcalı said he would be more careful in his future head coach selections.
