AKP MKYK Member Mesut Özil receives 'Sports Person of the Year' award

Former footballer Mesut Özil, who attended the 'Golden Cup Night' program organized by the Ümraniye Municipality, was presented with the "Sports Person of the Year" award. Özil answered questions from members of the press following the program.

Stating that it was a proud night for him, Özil said, "I would like to thank our Mayor very much for this invitation. It was a very proud night for me as well. Seeing so many young athletes here and seeing them succeed is truly gratifying. May God grant the continuation of these successes. I wish all our athletes success from the bottom of my heart. I believe and trust that they will achieve much greater successes in the coming years."

Expressing that very important players have come to Turkey, Özil said, "Especially as a Fenerbahçe fan, I wish success to Fenerbahçe. Really big transfers were made in the Süper Lig this season, and very important players have come to Turkey. Of course, these names contribute to the brand value of our football. However, since I have retired from football for a few years now, the subject that I am passionate about and excited by is the youth. Holding their hands, ensuring more investment is made in youth development, and providing opportunities for these young people to play for big clubs is the most valuable goal for me. This is what truly excites me."
