Fenerbahçe hosted Trabzonspor at home in the 5th week of the Trendyol Super League. The Yellow-Navy side won the match 1-0, securing 3 points.

In the first half of the match, Trabzonspor's goal by Onuachu was disallowed following a VAR intervention, while Okay Yokuşlu was also sent off with a red card after another VAR intervention following his foul on Kerem Aktürkoğlu.

AKP Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç targeted Fenerbahçe with posts on his social media account while the match was still ongoing. Making accusations of match-fixing, the AKP mayor stated, "Match-fixing is still ongoing. We don't even know how many people we are fighting against. A perfectly good goal disallowed and a red card in 20 minutes. Shame on you and damn you. Always the greatest Trabzonspor."

Yellow-Navy fans reacted harshly to Genç's message. Meanwhile, Fenerbahçe President Ali Koç also issued a written statement on the club's official page.

The statement is as follows:

"During the Fenerbahçe-Trabzonspor match played today, the insolent and reckless statements made by the Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality Mayor for the sake of cheap heroism have targeted the Fenerbahçe community and its fans; he has attempted to divide society with hate speech, ignoring the honorable resistance displayed against the FETÖ conspiracy during the July 3 process. Our club will take the necessary legal steps regarding these statements. However, we are not stopping there: We invite the millions of Fenerbahçe fans, who are the heirs of the resistance we showed on July 3, to file complaints against this individual with the relevant authorities. July 3 is our sweat and toil. Targeting our community is to stand on the same side as those who plot against the country's independence. We defeated FETÖ on July 3. Its remnants are nothing to us. As long as the Fenerbahçe community stands united, no one can bring us to our knees."
