Altay Bayındır's 'Galatasaray' confession!
Altay Bayındır, who transferred from Fenerbahçe to Manchester United at the beginning of the season, made statements regarding the derbies in Turkey. Stating that "Galatasaray was the biggest derby," Bayındır said, "The matches we played against Beşiktaş were also big games, but Galatasaray was different and I loved that atmosphere."
National goalkeeper Altay Bayındır, who transferred from Fenerbahçe to Manchester United during the summer transfer window, was a guest on a podcast broadcast on Manchester United TV.
The national athlete answered questions from former Manchester United player David May and host Sam Homewood.
Altay Bayındır's statements are as follows:
Answering Sam Homewood's question, "Who was the biggest match or the team you thought you needed to be careful about when you were at Fenerbahçe?" with Galatasaray, Bayındır said, "Galatasaray was the biggest derby. The matches we played against Beşiktaş were also big games, but Galatasaray was different and I loved that atmosphere."
"I WOULD ALWAYS BE A FORWARD"
Explaining how he started goalkeeping, Bayındır used the following expressions:
"When playing matches in the garden, I would never go to the goalkeeper position. I would always be a forward. Really. My first position was defense, then I played as a forward. What happened next is a different story; one day I was playing at my first club, Bursaspor, and I was a defender at that time.
One day, when the goalkeeper couldn't come to training, our manager said to me, 'Altay, you are tall, go to the goal, but there is no time to have fun.' I wanted to play in defense and as a forward, but I said okay, let's try. I went to the goal and felt very good. When the ball came, I was diving towards the ball and everyone was shouting at me that I could do it. When the ball came towards me and I caught it, everyone was shouting, 'Great, come on.' And when I saved a penalty, there was no one better than me." Stating that he noticed goalkeepers wearing different jerseys, the United player said, "I was watching every match back then. All the players are the same, but the goalkeeper was wearing a different jersey. I really liked that too."
"YOU DON'T RUN MUCH, EVERYONE IS ALREADY RUNNING"
Stating that he consulted his mother before switching to goalkeeping, Bayındır recounted the dialogue he had with her with these words:
"My mother was in the kitchen, and I said to her, 'What do you think about my current position? I can play as a forward. Or I can go to the goal.' Even if she didn't know much, she knew a little because we were watching matches at home every day. And she said to me, 'You can go to the goal, it would be better for you. You are tall and you would have to run less there. You don't run much, everyone is already running.'"
Concluding his speech by addressing his mother, Bayındır said, "Mom, thank you for everything. I love being in the goal. I love my position. It is very different and difficult, of course. It is difficult, but catching the ball is a very beautiful feeling. When I catch the ball, everyone says with me, 'Yes, we did it, yes!'"
