VAR reaction from Ankaragücü: As if there were no other referees left...
Ankaragücü Club has issued a statement regarding the appointment of Onur Özütoprak as the VAR referee for their Ziraat Turkish Cup match against Beşiktaş this evening.
Ankaragücü and Beşiktaş will face off in the second leg of the Ziraat Turkish Cup semi-finals. Ankaragücü has expressed its reaction to the video assistant referee (VAR) appointment made for the match.
The statement released on the capital city team's social media account is as follows:
"We would like to emphasize that we have met with astonishment the appointment of Onur Özütoprak, who was on the VAR referee team that decided to disallow a goal in the first leg of the Ziraat Turkish Cup semi-final, as the VAR referee for the second leg, as if there were no other referees left in Turkey.
We want to believe that the refereeing errors experienced in our previous matches will not occur in this critical encounter, which will have no room for rectification."
