Arda Kardeşler quits refereeing
Referee Arda Kardeşler, who had not been assigned to any matches following his decision in the Trabzonspor - Gaziantep FK game, has resigned from his position.
Arda Kardeşler, who was responsible for one of the most talked-about refereeing decisions of the season in the Süper Lig, has ended his refereeing career.
What happened?
In the match in question, Kardeşler awarded a free kick in favor of Trabzonspor, but after play had restarted, he stopped the game, stating that the kick had been taken from the wrong spot.
The interruption of a potential goal-scoring opportunity for the Bordeaux-Blues sparked major controversy. The decision was met with harsh criticism from both the sports community and the club side.
Following comments made about him by TFF President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, Arda Kardeşler was not assigned to any further matches.
According to a report by HT Spor, the 38-year-old Kardeşler submitted his resignation the other day, effectively ending his active refereeing career. He is expected to pursue a career in player management, given his close acquaintance with many footballers.
