Attack on Kastamonuspor players and coaching staff in Iğdır: 2 goalkeepers injured

Iğdır FK hosted Kastamonuspor in the TFF 2nd League Play-Off 3rd round. Kastamonuspor lost the match 2-1.

Following the match, Kastamonuspor players and technical staff, who were leaving to return to their hotel, were attacked by a group of fans. The group, which pelted the team bus with stones, later subjected the players to verbal and physical attacks in front of the hotel where the team was staying. Kastamonuspor goalkeepers Abdullah Yiğiter and Yasin Davuş were injured after being struck in the head by stones and soda bottles thrown by the group. Police teams, who had taken security measures in the area, attempted to disperse the group.

In a written statement following the incident, Kastamonuspor President Cengiz Aygün said, "My priority right now is for my team to return to Kastamonu safe and sound. The necessary complaints have been filed with all authorities. This was not right, my Iğdır. This did not suit the people of Iğdır; every drop of blood shed by my children will be accounted for. Why this grudge, why this hatred? We are brothers. I call on our Governor of Iğdır, our Iğdır Police Chief, and our Gendarmerie Regiment Commander to please fulfill your duties. The people of Kastamonu are not helpless. The people of Kastamonu love everyone, but those who remain silent in the face of injustice are 'mute devils.' Iğdır is a part of my country. I will not attribute the actions of a group of Iğdır residents to all of Iğdır. However, there is a security weakness in Iğdır, and I invite all our state units to take action."
