Başakşehir defeats opponent, advances to play-off round
In the second leg of the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round, Başakşehir faced Georgian side Iberia Tbilisi after winning the first leg 1-0.
Playing in the second leg of the UEFA Conference League third qualifying round after a 1-0 victory in the first match, Başakşehir defeated Iberia Tbilisi 2-0 at home to advance to the play-off round.
The first half of the match, played at Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium, ended in a 0-0 draw.
Başakşehir took a 1-0 lead in the 50th minute with a header from their Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek.
The orange-navy blues doubled their lead in the 61st minute. Dimitrios Pelkas, who had missed several scoring opportunities during the match, made it 2-0 with a classy free-kick goal.
WILL FACE IRISH TEAM
There were no further goals in the remainder of the match, and Başakşehir left the pitch as the 2-0 winners.
With a 3-0 aggregate victory over their opponent across the two legs, Başakşehir has advanced to the play-off round of the UEFA Conference League.
Başakşehir will face the Irish team St. Patrick's in the play-off round.
If the orange-navy blues eliminate St. Patrick's, they will qualify to compete in the Conference League.
