Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka wins Australian Open women's singles final
Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka has become the champion of the season's first Grand Slam tennis tournament, the Australian Open, after defeating China's Qinwen Zheng 2-0 with sets of 6-3 and 6-2 in the women's singles final.
In the women's singles final of the tournament held in Melbourne, the number 2 seed Sabalenka faced the number 12 seed Zheng.
In a match that lasted one hour and 16 minutes, Sabalenka defeated Zheng, who was playing in her first career Grand Slam final, 2-0 with sets of 6-3 and 6-2, securing her second consecutive Australian Open title.
Sabalenka, who reached the championship without dropping a set, became the first tennis player to win back-to-back women's singles titles at the Australian Open since fellow Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, who won in 2012 and 2013.
Meanwhile, during the match, a spectator in the stands unfurled a Palestinian flag and chanted "Free Palestine" and "Ceasefire now." The game was briefly paused during the chanting before resuming.
