Beşiktaş bids farewell to European competition after conceding late goal: Remains at 9 points

In the 8th and final week of the UEFA Europa League, Beşiktaş faced Dutch side Twente away from home.

In the match played at FC Twente Stadion, neither team was able to find the back of the net during a first half where Twente played with more pressure, and the teams went into the locker room tied at zero.

The home side found the goal in the 76th minute. Following a low pass from the left wing by Anass Salah-Eddine, Daan Rots struck the ball firmly on the volley, sending it into the net to make the score 1-0.

Twente managed to maintain their lead for the remainder of the match, defeating Beşiktaş 1-0 to secure the 3 points.

Suffering their 5th defeat of the season in the Europa League, Beşiktaş remained at 9 points and ended their European journey by finishing the league phase in 27th place.

Twente, despite winning their final match, reached 10 points but finished in 25th place on goal difference, also bidding farewell to the Europa League.

POST-MATCH COMMENTS FROM BEŞİKTAŞ MANAGER SOLSKJAER

Beşiktaş manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose team was eliminated from the competition after a 1-0 loss to Dutch side Twente in the 8th and final week of the UEFA Europa League, stated that they could not create enough goal-scoring opportunities to win.

The Norwegian manager made statements at the press conference held after the match at De Grolsch Veste Stadium.

Stating that they had more possession in the match, Solskjaer said, "The main point was to create more goal chances. A draw didn't help either team. Unfortunately, we couldn't create enough chances to win. We could have taken the lead from a corner before the goal we conceded. We found opportunities, but it wasn't enough."

Emphasizing that they need to be better in attack, the 51-year-old coach added, "We have to learn to win. We have to learn to create opportunities in attack. We are going through a difficult period. We have to find stability and a plan that fits this group of players. We will do our best for this."

"SILVA HAD PAIN"

Responding to a question about Portuguese player Rafa Silva being substituted in the 60th minute, Solskjaer said, "Rafa Silva had pain in his hip before the match. He is a brave player. He wanted to play. We had trouble controlling the game in the later stages of the match and we had to make this change."

"THERE MUST BE PASSION"

Underlining that they performed worse than in the match where they defeated Athletic Bilbao 4-1, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said, "Football is that kind of game. There must be passion. There was a team that played with passion in the Athletic Bilbao match. We played worse than that match. We had 2 chances before the opponent's goal. It is clear with small nuances how things change when you score. There was a great atmosphere in that match. Today my players wanted to do something. In the first half, we tried to make fantastic passes when we should have done the right things in terms of passing, and that's why we lost the ball a lot. We need to fix this."

"WE MUST LEARN TO CONTROL"

Criticizing the team's constant attempts to play long balls in the final part of the match, the Norwegian manager said, "We must learn to control our emotions. We tried to score in the last 10 minutes. We kept trying to play long. We need to get the ball to the right places with faster passes. We have to learn this. Rome wasn't built in a day, everything takes time. We have to instill belief and confidence in the players."

Finally, stating that they want to add new players to the squad during the mid-season transfer window, Solskjaer noted that they should not act emotionally while planning.
