Betting investigation at TFF: Ural Aküzüm, referred to the PFDK, resigns from the board

The first resignation has come within the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) as part of a betting investigation. TFF Board of Directors member Ural Aküzüm has stepped down from his role at the federation after being referred to the Professional Football Discipline Committee (PFDK) on allegations of placing bets.

In the process conducted by the TFF Legal Consultancy, 448 individuals who have served in the Süper Lig and the 1. Lig over the last 5 years were referred to the PFDK on the grounds of having placed bets. Among those referred was Aküzüm, who served on the TFF Board of Directors.

Following the decision, it was learned that Aküzüm resigned from his TFF Board of Directors membership. Thus, Aküzüm became the first person from the federation's management to resign among those sent to the PFDK as part of the betting investigation.

In addition to his role at the TFF, Ural Aküzüm had previously served on the Galatasaray board. For this reason, Aküzüm's name was also mentioned among those referred to the PFDK on behalf of Galatasaray.

It was announced that the 5 names referred to the PFDK on behalf of Galatasaray are Ural Aküzüm, Emir Aral, Özgür Işıtan Gün, Ali Yüce, and Maruf Güneş.

The PFDK process is expected to continue with disciplinary evaluations regarding the referred individuals.
