Body cameras for referees: Era of instant video recording begins

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has implemented a body camera application for Süper Lig and 1. Lig referees. Through this application, referee decisions will be examined with transparent recordings, and the federation stated that it will benefit disciplinary processes.

According to the Turkish Football Federation's statement, the body camera system was first tested during the Gaziantep FK – Galatasaray match played on August 8. In this trial, the camera used by the TFF representative recorded instant footage.

SYSTEM IS GRADUALLY EXPANDING TO ALL LEAGUES

In the first stage, installations were completed in a total of seven stadiums, including the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex, Beşiktaş Park, and Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Sports Complex in Istanbul. According to the plan, it will be implemented in all stadiums in the Süper Lig and 1. Lig in the near future.

4TH OFFICIALS WILL ALSO WEAR CAMERAS

According to the new regulation, 4th officials will now also use body cameras. The automatically recorded audio and video footage will be stored in the system in a way that is closed to any interference. All recordings will be archived for 5 years for potential reviews.

DOMESTIC PRODUCTION SIGNATURE ON REFEREE CAMERAS

The body cameras are the ODAKAN model developed by ASELSAN. This technology, which has long been used in urban security applications in Turkey, has been adapted for sports fields to ensure that events on the pitch are documented more clearly.
