Bosphorus closed to ship traffic for yacht races
Transit ship traffic in the Bosphorus will be suspended for several hours today due to the Helly Hansen – Sport Works Bosphorus Race, hosted by Bahçeşehir University.
The Bosphorus will be closed to ship traffic throughout the day due to yacht races organized as part of the 2026 Turkish Sailing Federation activity program. Because of the 'Helly Hansen – Sport Works Bosphorus Race' event organized by Bahçeşehir University, transit ships scheduled to pass through the Strait will have to wait until the race is completed.
According to the information provided by the General Directorate of Coastal Safety, the restriction, which began at 08:40, will continue until 18:40. During this time frame, only racing yachts will be permitted in the Strait.
Holding yacht races in the Bosphorus, one of Istanbul's most important waterways, holds special significance for both the athletes and the city, which is known for its love of the sea. Officials stated that security measures have been increased and all necessary preparations have been made to ensure the races are completed without incident.
