Brazil parts ways with head coach Dorival Junior! Former Fenerbahçe manager considered as replacement...

In a statement released by the Brazilian Football Confederation, it was announced that the team has parted ways with Dorival Junior, who had been at the helm since January 2024.

The 62-year-old coach had been subjected to heavy criticism following a 4-1 defeat against Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup South American Qualifiers.

Brazil currently sits in 4th place with 21 points, 10 points behind leaders Argentina.

Junior, who has managed teams in his home country such as Atletico Mineiro, Athletico Paranaense, Santos, Cruzeiro, Coritiba, Internacional, Vasco da Gama, Fluminense, and Palmeiras, most recently coached Sao Paulo last year.

The Brazilian Football Confederation has identified Real Madrid's experienced manager Carlo Ancelotti as its primary target for the national team head coach position. However, Jorge Jesus is also on the agenda as an alternative. According to a report by Globo, federation officials are continuing their contacts with the Portuguese manager.

While Federation President Ednaldo Rodrigues wants to bring Ancelotti to the helm, some board members support Jorge Jesus because he is more familiar with Brazilian football. Jesus's name was also linked to the national team during his time managing Fenerbahçe.

The experienced manager, who currently manages Al Hilal, has a contract with his club until the end of the Club World Cup in July 2025.
