Breaking News: UEFA hands Merih Demiral a 2-match ban
UEFA has issued a 2-match suspension to national football player Merih Demiral due to his goal celebration.
UEFA has announced the penalty for Merih Demiral, against whom it had launched an investigation due to his 'Grey Wolf' goal celebration during the Austria match.
The national football player has been given a 2-match suspension.
TFF AND MERİH APPEAL TO CAS
Following UEFA's decision, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) and Merih Demiral have made an official appeal to the CAS to have the penalty overturned.
30-PAGE DEFENSE FOR MERİH
Prior to UEFA's decision, the TFF prepared a 30-page defense for Merih Demiral.
According to information received from federation officials, the file sent to the UEFA Disciplinary Committee included numerous previous examples and highlighted that the Grey Wolf sign is a 1,000-year-old symbol for Turkic peoples in Anatolia, Central Asia, and many parts of the world.
WHAT HAPPENED?
In the EURO 2024 European Football Championship quarter-final match, our National Football Team faced Austria. The crescent-star team secured a 2-1 victory in the match with goals from Merih Demiral. Merih Demiral, who scored the goals that brought victory to Turkey, celebrated his goals with the 'Grey Wolf' salute.
While UEFA launched an investigation into Demiral's celebration, the German newspaper Bild announced last night that Demiral would be given a 2-match suspension.
The TFF had denied Bild's report.
