Bright Osayi-Samuel speaks out on Trabzonspor match incidents: 'It was self-defense'
Fenerbahçe's Nigerian footballer Bright Osayi-Samuel spoke to the Nigerian press about the eventful match played against Trabzonspor.
Bright Osayi-Samuel has spoken for the first time about the incident where he punched a fan who entered the pitch following the Trabzonspor - Fenerbahçe match.
According to NtvSpor, citing the Nigerian outlet Score Nigeria, Samuel stated regarding the events: "The fans attacked the team, some of them had weapons on them. I had to defend my team, it was self-defense, that's what happened."
The yellow-navy player added, "My teammates had cuts and bruises on their bodies. Some were really scared, and some joined me to defend the team."
Osayi-Samuel's statements are as follows:
"I am sorry for what happened after the Trabzonspor match. I never wanted anyone to get hurt. However, the fans attacked the team, and I also saw that some of the fans had weapons on them. I had to defend my team, and that is why I intervened against the fan who entered the pitch. This was self-defense."
