Bursaspor Council of Trustees: 'We are obliged to ask for sacrifice'

The Council of Trustees of Bursaspor, the former Süper Lig champion that has gone through very difficult times in recent years and has been relegated to the TFF 3. Lig, has convened. In a joint statement issued by the Council of Trustees, it was stated that the club is going through difficult times but that they will overcome this challenging period together.

Here is that statement:

Dear football family; we are on the eve of a season where a club that was once our country's flagship team in the Champions League will compete in the 3. Lig. We will also see the days when we will lift the club back up together, moving from the generous budgets of the past to a sad process where even the electricity in its facilities was cut off and staff salaries could not be paid. It should not be forgotten that our club, which has a debt of over 1.5 billion liras, will compete in the last professional league with almost non-existent income at this point. Either we will initiate a historic recovery from where we are with everyone's sacrifice, or we will enter a more difficult period where the burden cannot be shouldered. To overcome these difficult times where we deeply feel the financial impossibilities; we regret to state that we are obliged to ask for sacrifice from all creditors, especially our former executives and former players who sweated in our jersey, until we recover. We have full faith that the days when we will overcome this difficult period, compete in European cups again, regain the permanent income sources we have lost, and establish a sustainable structure will come with good governance and the financial planning to be implemented. All our efforts are in this direction. We will keep Bursaspor alive together, which will continue to raise top-level athletes for the country's football!” the statement read.
