Bursaspor, the 5th champion of the Süper Lig, may shut down!

Bursaspor, which won the Süper Lig title in the 2009-2010 season, has reached the brink of closure. The green-and-white team, which has produced numerous players for Turkish football, is currently struggling to stay in the TFF 2nd League.

Bursaspor President Recep Günay said in an interview with bursaspordabugun.com that they are going through a difficult period and are on the verge of shutting down.

"BURSASPOR HAS ZERO CHANCE OF SURVIVAL"

“The leaders of Bursa have set up headquarters at the TFF. We are having discussions there regarding Bursaspor. We are trying to get the transfer ban lifted. If the ban is not lifted, we will be dependent on the players currently here. They know this too, and they are being uncompromising. The ban will not be lifted easily. We have made applications from legal and economic perspectives. This is not something that can be solved in a day. There is so much accumulated debt, how can you handle it in two days? Let me be clear and explicit: based on the documents before us, it is obvious why the club is facing closure. Bursaspor has zero chance of survival.

"WE ARE TRYING TO SAVE THE CLUB'S FUTURE"

A penalty has been received legally. You cannot solve this with money alone. We are trying to remove this penalty from a legal standpoint. We have a ban not for 2 periods, but for 3. In fact, there is even more. We have also made an offer regarding the point deduction penalty and have reached an agreement. If we resolve this situation, we will stop the point deduction. We are dealing with these issues. We are trying to save the club's future. We have filed complaints with UEFA, CAS, and the TFF. Let us create public awareness so that the Bursaspor community can stand tall and strong against the TFF. The decision they make will determine whether the club lives or shuts down. The decision will be clear next week. If the Bursaspor community stands together, this decision will turn out in our club's favor.”

"WE HAVE DONE MORE THAN WE COULD"

President Günay also stated the following:

“We have done more than we could. Even our youth team travels to away games by plane. Our A-team stays in the best planes and the best hotels. As the management, we have done whatever was necessary, even though it was beyond our means. We have not added 1 TL of debt to the club to this day. Its electricity and water have not been cut off. What should we have done so that this team would not be in this state? We are more upset and angry than anyone else. Show us the right way and we will do it. Or show us someone else and let them do it. Or you come and do it yourselves. Bursaspor has 1.5 billion TL in debt. There are liens... Let's say we quit today. There is a tax payment at the end of the month. A notice has arrived from the TFF. There are situations involving point deductions and withdrawal from the league by the TFF. While we are dealing with these, it would not be right for us to just walk away. Leaving is easy... Then you will ask, 'where did you go now?' Do not play with people like this. These things are not that easy.”

ARBITRATION DECISION AWAITED

On the other hand, Yağız Sabuncuoğlu from Sport Digitale stated in a post on his X account, “Bursaspor Club may shut down depending on the response from the Arbitration Board. The decision is awaited.”
