Calls for resignation rise after Italy defeat: Montella says, 'Resignation is not on our agenda'

The Turkish National Football Team was defeated 4-1 by Italy in Bursa during their second match in the UEFA Nations League A, Group 1. While calls for resignation rose from the stands during the match, head coach Vincenzo Montella responded to the criticism after the game.

Stating that the team is not accustomed to playing matches every three days at this level, Montella said, "Our approach to the match was not at the level of our opponent. This saddens me. As a team, we deserved to be booed and whistled in the first half."

The Italian coach emphasized that the first part of the match, in particular, needs to be analyzed well. Montella stated, "We must analyze the first 30 minutes well. We must not lose our self-confidence. We are the ones who brought ourselves here. We will continue to fight by being on the pitch in the best way possible again."

Pointing out that the A League level is different, Montella noted that Turkey was in the C League three years ago, that they won the B League during his tenure, and that they are competing in the A League today. Montella also gave examples based on squad values, stating that Italy is at the 840 million euro level, while Turkey is at 417 million euros.

Saying that they will talk to the federation president not only in victories but also in defeats, Montella said, "We came here all together." He gave a short and clear answer to the resignation discussions: "Resignation is not on our agenda."
