The deadlock was broken in the 111th minute by an own goal from Diney. Argentina left the pitch with a 3-2 victory, advancing to the round of 16, while Cape Verde's World Cup journey came to an end.

In the round of 16, Argentina will face Egypt, who advanced after eliminating Australia.
