Retired NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony stated that he "never requested a trade" from his former team, the Denver Nuggets, to the New York Knicks.
Speaking with Hall of Fame player Dwyane Wade, Anthony addressed the trade that eventually took him to New York in 2011, claiming that he never requested a trade to the Knicks that year:
"I didn't specifically ask for New York, though. People think I went and specifically requested that. It never happened like that."
At the 2011 trade deadline, the Knicks completed one of the biggest trades in franchise history with the Nuggets, sending Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov, a first-round draft pick, and two second-round draft picks in exchange for Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter, and Renaldo Balkman.
