CAS rejects Russian Olympic Committee's appeal
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rejected the appeal filed by the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) against the decision to suspend its activities.
CAS has issued its decision regarding the Russian Olympic Committee's appeal. The statement confirmed the decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend the Russian Olympic Committee's activities "until further notice."
The Russian Olympic Committee has the right to appeal the CAS decision to the Swiss Federal Tribunal within 30 days.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The International Olympic Committee had announced that the recognition of organizations in the Ukraine regions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia by the Russian Olympic Committee constituted a "breach of the Olympic Charter."
It was stated that the ROC could no longer operate as a national committee and would not be eligible for any funding.
Russian athletes competed as neutrals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and the Russian flag, emblem, and anthem were not permitted at the event.
