UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has announced that he will not be a candidate in the presidential election to be held in 2027. Emphasizing that UEFA needs a new president, Ceferin said, "I decided six months ago that I would not run again. The reason is that every organization needs fresh blood after a while, but the main reason is that I have been away from my family for 7 years."
At the 48th UEFA Ordinary Congress in Paris, France, a change to the UEFA statutes made it possible for the current president, Aleksander Ceferin, to run again in 2027. However, Ceferin stated that he would not be a candidate in the 2027 election and would step down from his post.
In his statement, Ceferin said, "I decided six months ago that I would not run again. The reason is that every organization needs fresh blood after a while, but the main reason is that I have been away from my family for 7 years. I did not want to reveal my thoughts consciously before because I wanted to see the true face of some people."
Aleksander Ceferin has been serving as UEFA president since 2016.
