It has been reported that the Turkish Football Federation has reached an agreement in principle with Sergen Yalçın for the position of head coach of the National Football Team. Following the parting of ways with Vincenzo Montella, it was stated that the federation is preparing to appoint the 53-year-old coach to the role.
According to NTV Spor, Yalçın is expected to be officially announced for the position following the TFF meeting scheduled for 15:00 today. Details regarding the duration of the agreement have also begun to emerge. Accordingly, the TFF plans to sign a contract with Sergen Yalçın that will be valid until the elections in the summer of 2027.
If Yalçın takes office, his first tests with the National Team will be the UEFA Nations League matches to be played in November. The Crescent-Stars will host Belgium in İzmir on November 12. The national team will then travel to face France on November 15.
Starting his coaching career at Gaziantepspor in 2013, Sergen Yalçın has served at Sivasspor, Kayserispor, Eskişehirspor, Konyaspor, Alanyaspor, Yeni Malatyaspor, Beşiktaş, and Antalyaspor. Yalçın managed both Gaziantepspor and Beşiktaş during multiple tenures.
Sergen Yalçın achieved the most significant success of his coaching career with Beşiktaş in the 2020-2021 season. Having secured both the Süper Lig and Turkish Cup titles while leading the black-and-white team, Yalçın stands as the strong candidate for the new era at the National Team.
