Criminal complaint filed over attack on volleyball team!
The Nicer Hotel Volleyball team, a member of the Turkish Women's Volleyball 1st League, has filed a criminal complaint following injuries sustained by its athletes during incidents that occurred after their match against İmamoğlu Belediye.
The Nicer Hotel Volleyball team, one of the clubs in the KFC Turkish Women's Volleyball 1st League, has filed a criminal complaint on the grounds that its athletes were injured in incidents that broke out following their match against İmamoğlu Belediye in Adana on December 10.
Mesut Karabulut, the club president of the Malatya-based team, stated in an interview with an AA reporter that Malatya suffered significant damage in the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes and that the team prepared for the league under difficult conditions.
Reminding that they decided to continue in the league to provide a different environment for the people in the city, which was negatively affected by the earthquake, Karabulut expressed that they are competing under challenging circumstances.
Reporting that one of their players was injured in the incidents that occurred after the match against İmamoğlu Belediyespor in Adana during the 10th week of the league, Karabulut spoke as follows:
"There was an abnormal crowd at the match, generally male-dominated, and insults began before the match even started. They said unspeakable things to our players and coaches. To us, it was clear from the beginning of the match that it would end this way. They wouldn't let the children go to the locker rooms, chanting, 'This is Adana, there is no way out of here; this is İmamoğlu, there is no way out of here.' They caused one of our athletes to be injured in the knee by throwing broken glass bottles and plastic bottles. We were going to take our athlete to the hospital; they wouldn't let the medical staff inside, and they wouldn't let the children leave. We encountered something like this; we have the match footage. We condemn them."
Explaining that events unbecoming of Turkish sports took place after the match, Karabulut said, "We filed a criminal complaint; our injured athlete gave her statement and declared that she is pressing charges. Our management reviewed the camera footage, and we filed our complaints regarding the club and the spectators. A cut formed on our athlete's knee, and 5 stitches were required. After having her treated, we left Adana around 2 AM."
