Critical change coming to the VAR system

The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system, which began implementation in Turkey in the 2018-2019 season, has been in use for a long time.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) is preparing to make a new decision to improve the system, which is used to minimize errors in football matches.

INTERVENTION FOR INCORRECT SECOND YELLOW CARDS

According to the statement, the board has added a new regulation to its agenda that would allow VAR to intervene in incorrectly issued second yellow cards.

DECISION TO BE DISCUSSED

This decision regarding VAR, which can intervene in direct red cards but cannot intervene in red cards resulting from a second yellow, will be discussed in the new year.

The date for the discussion of the rule has been set for January 20, 2026. This proposal will be presented at the IFAB Annual Business Meeting expected to be held in London.
