Del Bosque appointed to oversee Spanish Football Federation

In Spain, the left-wing coalition government decided during its weekly regular Council of Ministers meeting to appoint former head coach Del Bosque to lead the commission established by the government-affiliated Higher Sports Council (CSD) to oversee the RFEF.

Government Spokesperson and Minister of Education and Sports Pilar Alegria stated in her press briefing, "Del Bosque will be the face of Spanish football."

Del Bosque, who also managed Beşiktaş for a period (2004-2005), previously served as head coach for Real Madrid (1999-2003) and the Spanish National Team (2008-2016) before ending his career in 2016.

A presidential election will be held on September 10 at the RFEF, which has recently been embroiled in various corruption incidents and scandals.

The former president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, resigned in September 2023 following backlash after he kissed women's national team player Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the World Cup trophy ceremony.

Rubiales, who served as RFEF President between 2018 and 2023, is also under investigation regarding allegations of corruption.
