Disgrace in Formula 1: Manhole cover causes damage

A 'manhole cover' error in Formula 1 caused major damage to Carlos Sainz's car. Team principal Fred Vasseur said regarding the incident that the damage to Carlos Sainz's car was massive and that this situation is unacceptable for Formula 1.

The 22nd race of the 2023 season, where Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has already secured the Formula 1 championship, will be held in Las Vegas.

The first practice session at the Las Vegas Grand Prix could not be completed, and major damage occurred to Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz's car.

PRACTICE COULD NOT CONTINUE

Sainz's car shut down its power unit after the underside of the vehicle struck a manhole cover. Following the occurrence of the issue, it was announced that the practice session could not continue as a result of the work carried out on the track. Furthermore, the International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced that the second practice session had been postponed.

ENGINE AND POWER UNIT DAMAGE

Stating that the damage cost a fortune, Vasseur noted, "The engine and power unit sustained massive damage. This situation is unacceptable. It cost us a fortune. We ruined Carlos's session. We will definitely not be in the 2nd practice session."
