Doncic traded to Lakers, Anthony Davis to Mavericks: Luka and LeBron are now teammates

Luka Doncic's team, the Mavericks, sent their point guard to the Los Angeles team in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and the Lakers' 2029 first-round draft pick. As part of the trade, Dallas center Maxi Kleber and power forward Markieff Morris are also headed to the Lakers.

The trade is being cited as one of the 'most significant' deals in NBA history. The Slovenian star, Doncic, had been playing in Dallas since the beginning of his NBA career. With the agreement between the two teams, Doncic and LeBron James will now play on the same team.

ESPN, citing Shams Charania, reported that Luka Doncic was unaware of the trade agreement. Allegedly, the Mavericks accepted the Lakers' trade offer without discussing it with their player. The young point guard was the highest-paid player on his team. Doncic was also his team's leader in scoring and assist statistics.

It was reported that the deal was facilitated through a third team. The Utah Jazz, as the third party in the trade agreement, acquired Jalen Hood-Schifino from the Lakers. Additionally, one 2025 second-round draft pick each from the Los Angeles Clippers and the Mavericks was given to the Jazz.
