Door opened for Russian teams in EuroLeague: Official statement released

EuroLeague Head Coaches Board Director Goran Sasic has suggested that Russian teams could return to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague next season. Sasic stated that the EuroLeague management is discussing increasing the number of teams to 20, claiming that this expansion is intended to make room for CSKA Moscow and Zenit.

RETURN OF RUSSIAN CLUBS ON THE AGENDA

Signals are being given for the return of Russian clubs, which were expelled from the EuroLeague in 2022 due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. Goran Sasic stated that the EuroLeague management is considering re-including Russian teams in the organization, saying, "In recent EuroLeague board meetings, the idea of increasing the number of teams to 20 was discussed. The purpose of this is to pave the way for the return of CSKA Moscow and Zenit to the league."

THIS INJUSTICE MUST BE CORRECTED

Arguing that three Russian teams should also be in the EuroLeague in the future, Sasic said, "UNICS Kazan also deserves to return, but I do not think there is room for three Russian teams in the EuroLeague at the moment. This historical injustice needs to be corrected."
