Driver who caused Naldo's tragic day appears in court

The trial has begun for the driver accused of causing a traffic accident in Antalya that resulted in the deaths of the son and father-in-law of Edinaldo Gomes Pereira (Naldo), a Brazilian center-back for the Trendyol Super Lig team Bitexen Antalyaspor, and left two others injured.

The first hearing, held at the 5th High Criminal Court, was attended by the defendant Ferhat K., as well as Naldo Pereira, his wife Juliana Tilatti, his mother-in-law Alexandra Nardy, and the lawyers for both sides.

Given the floor during the hearing, Ferhat K. stated that the accident occurred after he lost control of his vehicle due to the effects of alcohol on the day of the incident.

Claiming that he did not fully see the accident because he hit the brakes suddenly, the defendant said:

"The vehicle I was driving belongs to my father. I had not slept the night before. Later, I consumed alcohol. I also had a headache because I couldn't sleep. I had taken a painkiller between 11:00 PM and 11:30 PM the night before the incident. Initially, there was no problem when I started driving. Afterward, the effect of the alcohol became apparent to me. However, I was generally fine while driving. Before the accident, I suddenly lost control. My head hit the steering wheel. Later, I saw the small child, Davi, on the sidewalk. I did not see the stop sign while driving. I do not know the exact time of the accident. The indictment states it as 10:45 AM. There is about a 1.5-hour gap between my alcohol consumption and the occurrence of the accident. I did not take any substances, and I do not use them."

THEY FILED A COMPLAINT

Alexandra Nardy, who gave her testimony in tears through an interpreter, stated that she did not remember how the accident happened and that she was filing a complaint against the defendant. Naldo Pereira also emphasized that his son and father-in-law had passed away in the accident and stated that he maintained his complaint.

Juliana Tilatti, who could not hold back her tears, also said she was filing a complaint against the defendant. The court panel decided to continue the defendant's detention and adjourned the hearing.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

In the traffic accident that occurred on September 7 in the Uncalı neighborhood of the Konyaaltı district, Naldo's son Davi Pereira (4), his father-in-law Walter Tilatti (65), his mother-in-law Alexandra Nardy, and motorcycle rider Cüneyt Eslik were injured.

Among the injured who were taken to Akdeniz University Hospital, Davi passed away on October 16, and his grandfather Tilatti died on December 12.

In the indictment prepared by the Antalya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was requested that the defendant be tried for the crime of "causing the death and injury of more than one person through conscious negligence."
