Mauro Icardi, who left Galatasaray on June 30 and has not yet signed with a new club, has made headlines in his home country of Argentina, this time for an off-field development. The Buenos Aires Ministry of Transport announced that a temporary traffic ban has been issued against the Argentine footballer until January 1, 2099.
In a post shared on the ministry's social media account, it was stated that Icardi was driving with an expired driver's license. The post also alleged that China Suarez, who was in the vehicle, had unbuckled her seatbelt and was leaning out of the car.
In the document that spread quickly on social media, the "temporary ban" record issued in Icardi's name listed the start date as September 21, 2026, and the end date as January 1, 2099. The date in question caused the decision to receive widespread public attention.
ICARDI'S REACTION TO THE MINISTRY
The 33-year-old footballer responded to the ministry's post on social media following the decision. Pointing to his Italian driver's license, which he stated is valid until 2029, Icardi argued that the decision was intended to create a media agenda at his expense.
“I wonder how they invalidated my Italian driver's license, which is valid until 2029. It is truly strange that even the Ministry of Transport is trying to gain clout through me just to get some attention in the media. Instead of tweeting and sitting around doing nothing, fix the roads so that transportation in our country can be provided more properly. Stop lying to people and do your job.”

Icardi also criticized the ministry's "invalidation" statement, noting that his Argentine license had to be surrendered when it was converted to a European license. The experienced player described the events as "a few minutes of tabloid fodder."
