National swimmer Eda Savcıgil has achieved a remarkable feat in Turkish swimming history by crossing the Molokai (Kaiwi) Channel, considered one of the world's most challenging open-water courses.
Completing the 42-kilometer course from Molokai Island to Oahu Island in Hawaii in 12 hours and 41 minutes, Savcıgil became the youngest Turkish swimmer to cross the Molokai Channel.
During the course, which is part of the Oceans Seven, Savcıgil battled challenging conditions in the Pacific Ocean, including sudden high waves, strong currents, venomous jellyfish, and sharks.
Stating that her goal following this success is to complete the Oceans Seven, Savcıgil said, "Becoming the youngest Turkish swimmer to cross the Molokai Channel and successfully and safely completing the course despite the ocean and weather conditions has motivated me even more."
Savcıgil had previously completed the 32-kilometer Catalina Channel, the first leg of the Oceans Seven, in 10 hours and 27 minutes, earning the titles of the fastest Turkish female swimmer and the youngest Turkish athlete on that course.
