Belözoğlu said, "I did not take a deliberate stance against Halil Umut Meler during the Çaykur Rizespor match; I made my objections within the framework of the rules. Regarding the statements made after the incidents in the Çaykur Rizespor match, Belözoğlu said the following:

As a manager who expressed his sadness regarding the situation he fell into, I could not find it becoming of him to portray me as the number one instigator, nor did I find it becoming of the family values he expressed.
