In a video shared on the club's social media account, Muniain stated, "You are the best thing in my life, but now, my love, it is time to part ways."
The statement also included the words, "The captain is saying goodbye after 15 seasons with the first team."

Speaking about his decision to leave, Iker Muniain said, "This was a very difficult decision, but it is the best for Athletic and for me. In the remaining matches, we will fight as always to reach the dream of the Champions League."
Iker Muniain is the second player with the most appearances in club history, with 557 matches.

Iker Muniain, who grew up in the Athletic Bilbao youth academy, was promoted to the first team in 2009.
Muniain, who has worn the Athletic Bilbao jersey for 15 seasons, has recorded 75 goals and 70 assists in 557 matches.
The Spanish footballer won the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup (2) titles with Athletic Bilbao.
