Ersu Şaşma's Olympic wind in Paris
National athlete Ersu Şaşma secured fifth place in the men's pole vault at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The men's pole vault finals were held at the Stade de France in Paris, the capital of France.
National athlete Ersu Şaşma cleared 5.50, 5.70, 5.80, and 5.85 meters on his first attempts. Skipping 5.90 meters after failing his first attempt, Ersu Şaşma was unable to clear 5.95 meters in his two attempts, finishing the event in 5th place.
Ersu had placed 10th at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
'I USED A TACTIC FOR A MEDAL'
Şaşma, an athlete for Fenerbahçe Club, told Hürriyet after the competition, "I was very close to a medal; it slipped through my fingers. All my poles felt too soft. I used a tactic for a medal, but it didn't work out. I was 10th in the last Olympics, and now I'm 5th. I'm progressing by five. Next time, it's gold."
