Hull City, which finished the season in fourth place in the English Championship, has found itself in the middle of a surprise development ahead of the play-off final. Under normal circumstances, Southampton had advanced to the final after eliminating Middlesbrough in the semi-finals. However, the disciplinary investigation launched following allegations that Southampton secretly monitored rival teams' training sessions has concluded.
Following the conclusion of the investigation, Southampton was disqualified from the tournament due to the espionage scandal. Middlesbrough has been reinstated as the team that Hull City will face in the play-off final. This development has caused widespread repercussions in the English football community.
Hull City owner Acun Ilıcalı made statements regarding the situation following the events. "We do not share the same view regarding the decision taken. We have a meeting with our legal team tomorrow. If a finalist is expelled from the tournament, and if the reason for the expulsion is a situation that directly affects the outcome of the match, of course, we cannot object. However, our legal experts are currently examining the possibility of us being promoted directly to the Premier League in the event that a finalist is disqualified," he stated.
