European interest in Turkish referees following the Halil Umut Meler incident: A letter has been sent

Portuguese Football Federation Referees Committee President Fontelas Gomes, in the letter he sent to his Turkish counterpart, stated, "Considering that the Turkish League matches have been suspended until further notice, I would like to inform you that the FPF CA is ready to appoint Turkish international referees to officiate in our First League in order to support Turkish referees and ensure they maintain their match fitness."

Fontelas Gomes stated that the attack by the Ankaragücü president on Halil Umut Meler ‘should be condemned and rejected, and that the incident has caused undeniable damage not only to football but also to refereeing.’
