Fenerbahçe's Nunez transfer blocked by tax issues

It has emerged that Fenerbahçe, which had a busy mid-season transfer window in the Süper Lig and strengthened its squad with star names like N'Golo Kante and Matteo Guendouzi, hit a last-minute "tax" hurdle in its pursuit of Darwin Nunez for the forward line.

Fenerbahçe's Nunez transfer blocked by tax issues

Although the Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal approved the loan formula, a special tax clause in the Uruguayan striker's contract prevented the transfer from being completed.

It was learned that the yellow-navy management sat down at the table with Al Hilal for Darwin Nunez, who was one of the strongest candidates on their list alongside Brian Brobbey, who plays for Premier League side Sunderland, for a forward reinforcement.

Despite reaching an agreement in principle with the Saudi club, a crisis arose due to the high tax amount the player would have to pay if he left the country before completing a certain period of time, as required by Saudi Arabian tax laws.

It was stated that the Fenerbahçe management was unwilling to cover this additional cost, which exceeded the transfer budget, and that the negotiations ended without a result after Nunez also did not want to take on this burden.
