FIFA launches disciplinary investigation into incidents following World Cup final

FIFA has launched a disciplinary process regarding the incidents that occurred on the pitch following the World Cup final played between Spain and Argentina.

In a statement from the International Federation of Association Football, it was stated that reports regarding the final match were evaluated and action was taken under Article 36 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

''Following the evaluation of the relevant match reports regarding the FIFA World Cup final played between Spain and Argentina, and in accordance with Article 36 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC), the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has appointed a Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor to investigate potential violations of the rules regarding the post-match incidents.''

In the final played at the New York New Jersey Stadium in New York, USA, Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 in extra time to reach the World Cup championship.

Following the final whistle of the match, tension occurred on the pitch and a scuffle broke out. The Disciplinary and Ethics Prosecutor appointed by FIFA will examine whether disciplinary rules were violated during the post-match incidents.
