FIFA world rankings updated: Spain takes the top spot, Turkey drops to 27th

FIFA has updated its world rankings for national teams following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup. Spain, which finished the tournament as champions, reached 1995.88 points to become the new leader.
Spain, which defeated Lionel Messi's Argentina 1-0 in the final with a goal in extra time, rose from the third spot they held in June 2026 to the top. Argentina, playing in their second consecutive World Cup final, placed second with 1970.37 points.
The Turkish National Football Team settled into 27th place in the rankings after being eliminated in the group stage of the tournament. Under the management of Vincenzo Montella, Turkey recorded 1 win and 2 losses in 3 matches at the 2026 World Cup. The Crescent-Stars dropped 5 places compared to their position before the tournament.
SURPRISE FROM MEXICO IN THE TOP 10
Norway, one of the notable teams in the rankings, climbed 12 spots to reach 19th place after reaching the quarterfinals in the World Cup. Mexico, one of the tournament's co-hosts, entered the top 10 with a 4-spot rise despite being eliminated in the round of 16.
Germany was among the teams that made an early exit from the tournament. Germany, eliminated by Paraguay in the round of 32, dropped to 12th place in the new list.
