Flash statement from the Saudis! 'It is regrettable that both teams did not comply with the agreement'

Following the postponement of the 2023 Turkcell Super Cup match, which was planned to be played between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, due to the disrespect shown toward our country's sacred values and symbols, a statement has come from the organizing company.

In the statement made by Riyadh Season, an organization affiliated with the Saudi Arabian state and the organizer of the Super Cup match, the following expressions were included;

"First of all, we would like to emphasize our pride in our close relations with our brother, the Republic of Turkey, in various fields. Among these are sports arenas.

We were looking forward to the match being held on time in accordance with international football regulations and rules, which require sports to be played without any slogans outside of their scope; especially since this issue was discussed with the Turkish Football Federation within the framework of the preparatory meetings held before the match, and since we emphasized that the requirements of the regulations for this match must be complied with in accordance with international regulations and rules...

Furthermore, we reached an agreement on the playing of the national anthem of the Republic of Turkey and the display of Turkish flags inside the stadium and in the stands to recognize the status held by the Republic of Turkey.

Despite this agreement, it is regrettable that both teams did not comply with the agreement, which led to the match not being able to take place."
