Florentino Perez re-elected as Real Madrid president without a vote
At Spain's Real Madrid Club, Florentino Perez has been re-elected as president by the electoral committee after no other candidates emerged.
Florentino Perez has once again taken the presidential seat at Real Madrid. With no rivals running against him, Perez will serve as president for another 4 years following a decision by the electoral committee, according to the club's official statement.
The statement noted, "In accordance with Article 40, Section E, Paragraph 2 of the club's bylaws, Mr. Florentino Perez Rodriguez has been declared president of Real Madrid." The 77-year-old Perez, who first served as president between 2000 and 2006 and returned to the post on June 1, 2009, is now set to remain in office until 2029 under normal circumstances.
Meanwhile, in the 20th week of La Liga, Real Madrid defeated Las Palmas 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu to return to the top of the table. Falling behind early in the match due to a goal by Fabio Silva, the Madrid side secured the victory with goals from Kylian Mbappe (18' and 36'), Brahim Diaz (33'), and Rodrygo (57').
National team player Arda Güler entered the game in the 76th minute, replacing Brahim Diaz. With this result, league leaders Real Madrid increased their points to 46, placing them ahead of Atletico Madrid (44), and Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao (39).
