Freediver Necati Gül breaks Turkish record with 74-meter dive

In a statement regarding his achievement, the successful freediver noted that he was the youngest athlete in the competition, saying, "The world's best athletes competed here. Competing among them truly makes me proud. I competed alongside 120 athletes from 40 countries. We represented Turkey as a team of two athletes."

Stating that he would work to bring world records to Turkey if he receives sponsorship support, Necati Gül said:

"Returning to our country with a new Turkish record makes me very happy. I also set a record at the World Cup in Egypt a month ago. It is especially proud to break this record in Southern Cyprus. Five world records were broken here. In the future, as long as the opportunities arise, I want to bring those records to our country. I have been studying in Italy on a scholarship since September 2022. Especially this year, in honor of the 100th anniversary of our Republic, if I have the opportunity and can find a sponsor, I would like to attempt a world record on October 29. I hope that in the coming years, I will have the opportunity to bring not only national records but also world records to our country."

Necati Gül, who previously held the Turkish record in freediving with 73 meters, succeeded in improving his mark in Southern Cyprus.
