Galatasaray defeated away at Ajax: Missed chance for top 8

In their 8th and final match of the UEFA Europa League league phase, our representative Galatasaray was defeated 2-1 by Dutch side Ajax, missing the opportunity to finish in the top 8. Galatasaray will continue in the competition via the play-off round.

Galatasaray started the match with the following XI: Muslera, Berkan, Kaan, Davinson, Abdülkerim, Torreira, Sara, Yunus, Barış Alper, Mertens, and Osimhen.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

In the 16th minute, Galatasaray missed a very clear opportunity. Osimhen rose to meet a beautiful cross from Barış Alper, who had broken down the right flank, but his header went just wide of the post.

In the 23rd minute, Akpom met a ball won by Brobbey, but his shot was saved by goalkeeper Muslera. Traore followed up on the rebound to put Ajax 1-0 ahead.

In the 38th minute, Osimhen received a yellow card for a foul on the goalkeeper. With this, Osimhen is now suspended.

In the 53rd minute, Galatasaray came close to scoring once again. A shot from Sara from the edge of the box went just wide. Following this play, Torreira received a yellow card and is now suspended.

In the 90+4th minute, Victor Osimhen met the ball from a corner kick and sent it into the net, determining the final score of the match.

Galatasaray continued to press in the remaining minutes but could not find another goal. Thus, the match ended 2-1 in favor of Ajax.
